The Different Types Of Chandelier Lights

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Adding chandelier lights to your home is an excellent way to make a room very elegant and classy. Chandeliers are commonly used in mansions, churches, and hotels, but can be added to any room that needs a light that makes a statement.

The standard chandelier has arms and crystals hanging from it that sparkle light all around the room. Dozens of candelabra style arms will hold small light bulbs that provide a balanced array of light. Crystal chandelier lighting varies in size from a foot or so across, all the way up to enormous. These light fixtures are very heavy, and take serious bracing at the ceiling to prevent them from falling.

Rustic chandelier lights are made from iron, oil rubbed bronze, or even antlers. These are more commonly found in lodges, but can be adapted for home use. Use rustic style chandeliers when you have the decor in the room to match, anything else will make this light fixture look very odd!

Glass chandelier lights will usually have a stained or fused glass base to them that creates an elegant, yet homely, look. These are probably the most common style for home use, and are also fairly affordable (especially when compared to crystal chandeliers!). Sometimes, this style is also referred to as Tiffany pendant lighting.

Leaf chandeliers are also very popular. Like the crystal ones, these are the ultimate in elegance. Perfect for large entryways and foyers, these will make a huge first impression to anyone who walks into your home. The extreme detail and bold, rich design that accompanies this style of chandelier can make it a little too much for a daily use dining room, but they work perfectly anywhere that you need to make a big impression.

Chandelier lights are more affordable than many people think. Shopping around online will turn out some great light fixtures for well under $500. Find the style that works best for your home, and start researching to find the best deal.
